Description

The Georgian Bay Folk Society (GBFS) is a cultural organization, led by volunteers that presents, promotes and encourages folk music and folk art in the community at large. The GBFS is the recognized ambassador of folk music and other folk arts and crafts within the Grey Bruce region. Our Annual Summerfolk Festival provides our community with the opportunity to explore Local, National and International Music, Arts, Crafts and Culture. Our programming draws from many different styles and genres in both art and music to create a diverse landscape for our patrons to experience and enjoy. Our Vision to present a unique and broad representation of Canadian Folk Culture extends to our dedication to develop our youth with our Youth Discoveries program. A program designed to mentor young songwriters and performers and provide networking opportunities to help create the next generation of folk musicians to carry on these traditions throughout the generations to come.

Our annual SummerFolk music festival is just around the corner and we are looking for students to help us complete the technical aspects of our new online volunteer training program. We would like to collaborate with students to design a high-level training program based on our provided objectives. This should include templates, processes, strategy, and implementation guidelines. We also appreciate insight on recommended training and development areas. Student tasks may include, but are not limited to: Document the current state of our volunteer recruitment process Create visualizations, i.e (Visio or data flow diagrams) to help us identify strengths and pain points in our recruitment process Assess our current process and make recommendations for improvements and efficiencies Document and map a target state process that we can use to train our team on the new process Conduct research, produce reports, and recommend changes in human resources practices. Assist with new volunteers pre-orientation Design and facilitate team trainings Design and facilitate Onboarding training If you are ready to embark on this journey with us, let us know!

Not-for-profit organization policy review

The organization's bylaws, policies and procedures need comprehensive review and significant revision in order to allow further projects to develop staff and volunteer training to be undertaken. reworking before other projects can be undertaken. Documents from several departments must be gathered and compared to ensure consistency in policies. A first draft of this policy document has been created. The policies under review need to work for an not-for-profit arts organization that focuses on producing one major event per year (medium sized music festival with multiple stages, food vendors, art and craft vendors and media) along with a few smaller events on an ad-hoc basis. With a focus on volunteer engagement, the organization has only one regular employee only bringing in additional staff for part of the year. Policies will need to include: AODA Working with Vulnerable sector Violence Harassment Health & Safety Weather & Emergency Cancellation Refunds Social Media Use of Personal Vehicles for Society Business Confidential Information This project needs to be completed in sufficient time to be able to enact the policies in training of several hundred volunteers in advance of this year's festival in August. Ideally before the end of May. Please contact our Technical Director for and further questions or comments.
